What you will achieve
- Insert a pressure-reducing valve in an existing pipe.
- Verify that route and total length are preserved.
Step-by-step tutorial
How to insert a pressure-reducing valve without shortening the pipe
Insert a valve and node, preserve the original pipe, and verify the hydraulic result in a profile.
Before you start
- Work with a calculable copy of the model.
- Identify the pipe and its direction before inserting.
Insert the valve in the link
Select the pipe, choose Insert valve, and then choose the pressure-reducing type. WatDis creates the required node and preserves route continuity.
- Do not delete the pipe first.
- Check valve direction before calculating.
Set the target
Select the inserted valve and set its target in the model's visible units. Save one identifiable change and calculate again.
- Interpret a target together with upstream and downstream conditions.
- Undo and Redo let you verify the change without rebuilding the model.
Verify the result
Create a profile that crosses the valve and compare node elevation with the hydraulic grade line. The valve should appear in the route and the drop should match calculated results.
Do it in WatDis
- Record route length before inserting.
- Insert the valve, set its target, and calculate.
- Open the profile and verify valve position.
Common mistakes
Replacing the pipe manually
That adds steps and can alter geometry. Use Insert valve on the existing link.
Reading a drop without checking direction
Confirm orientation and model conditions before interpreting the profile.
